MCC's Leadership Structure

MCC is elder led, staff driven, and congregationally accountable.  Here's what that means:

  • Elder Led:  volunteers elected by church membership, and guided by the Holy Spirit, with the responsibility to shepherd the church of Christ by spiritually feeding, leading, and protecting God's people. (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Acts 20:28-31)
  • Staff Driven:  paid staff are given the responsibility & authority to direct ministry, encourage the disconnected, and train volunteers, while being accountable to one another and the board of elders. (Acts 6:3-4, 1 Cor 9:7-9)
  • Congregationally Accountable:  elected leaders are accountable to Scripture and the church membership, serving as they are recognized by the congregation. (Acts 6:3-4, 17:11)

Elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7)

MCC has paid staff including pastors and ministry directors; overarching leadership is shared by the pastors and lay elders.  Elder candidates undergo extensive training before being nominated, and elected, by the congregation. Together with the pastors, elders are jointly responsible for the spiritual care (shepherding) of the congregation.

"You are to follow no man further than he follows Christ."

- John Collins

Deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13)

Like the elders, the board of deacons is composed of volunteers who have undergone training and been chosen by the congregation. Whereas the elders care for the spiritual needs of the church, deacons are tasked with caring for the physical needs of the church family, particularly through mercy ministry.
